City of Coralville Indoor Facilities Offer Programs & Warmth

City Facilities

The City of Coralville offers several public facilities where residents can warm up when outdoor temperatures dip down; holiday hours may vary:    

Coralville Public Library

  • 1401 5th Street, 319.248.1850
  • Hours: 
    • Monday-Thursday: 10:00 am-8:30 pm
    • Friday: 10:00 am-6:00 pm
    • Saturday: 9:00 am-4:30 pm
    • Sunday: 12:00 pm-4:00 pm
  • The Library offers a variety of services, programs, and materials for all ages including reading programs, book discussions, and more

Coralville Recreation Center

  • 1506 8th Street, 319.248.1750
  • Hours:
    • Monday-Friday: 7:00 am-9:00 pm
    • Saturday: 8:00 am-9:00 pm
    • Sunday: 12:00 pm-9:00 pm
  • The Recreation Center offers a number of indoor recreational opportunities and programs

Coralville Indoor Pool

  • Hours: visit
  • Admission: $3.75 per person; free admission for children under the age of two.

Area Shelters

If your home is not heated, go to the home of a friend or family member, or go to a local shelter. For information about Shelter House and the Low-Barrier Winter Emergency Shelter, visit or call 319.351.0326.

Shelter House

  • 429 Southgate Avenue, Iowa City
  • Johnson County’s 70-bed homeless shelter with a men's dorm, women's dorm, and family rooms
  • Sign up for admission to shelter begins daily at 6:00 pm; you must be present to sign up

Low-Barrier Winter Emergency Shelter

  • 821 S. Clinton Street, Iowa City (corner of Clinton Street and Benton Street)
  • Open daily, 5:00 pm-8:00 am, until early March 2018
  • Minimal overnight accommodations for individuals experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year, despite barriers they may have such as substance abuse
